2020 was a year of transition for our family.
As many of you know, our family helped establish and manage a safe home for young girls in Eswatini for almost six years. This home still serves as a safe haven for girls who have been victims of sexual abuse and trauma.
However, in August of 2020, the non-profit we worked for informed us that they would be closing down the girls’ home as they began to downsize and consolidate their ministry.
This news left us somewhat devastated and feeling as though our dreams had been shattered. Confusion set in as we were unable to reconcile the reality of what was happening with the deep conviction and knowledge that the Lord had called us to this work here in Swaziland.
The need was so great and yet the workers so few. Our girl’s home had been the first of its kind in Swaziland, specifically helping victims of sexual abuse find refuge and rehabilitation……no place like this existed!
How could we stop? Who would fight for these girls who were in such desperate need of an advocate? At a crossroads, we prayed, asking God to direct our next steps and whether or not he wanted us to pack up and head back to the states.
As we sought the Lord, he began to open doors confirming that our work was not yet finished here and that “He who calls is faithful”. The Lord directed our steps and in October of 2020, our family officially launched our own 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization called Sight of Hope.
Sight of Hope’s primary mission is fighting for freedom from sexual exploitation by providing safe homes for girl victims of sex-trafficking, sexual abuse, or vulnerably at-risk girls. We exist to bring the redeeming love and hope of Jesus Christ to young women who have been sexually exploited and see girls in our care be transformed and empowered to reach their full potential.
Before our non-profit registration was even complete, the Lord had NOT ONLY given us the land and the infrastructure needed to see this work go forward (FOR FREE), but he also provided the funding needed to get this project off the ground!!! HOW AWESOME IS GOD!
Since establishing Sight of Hope, we have officially hired 5 staff members and accepted 3 interns who have joined our team who are committed to seeing this vision moving forward. We have also begun building an additional structure that when finished, will house another 24 girls. Currently, our infrastructure only allows for 15.
It is with the help of our faithful supporters that we are able to reach these girls.
As we have accepted our first three cases just this week and anticipate our remaining twelve places being filled by Easter, we are asking for your help! Would you consider partnering with Sight of Hope as we look to connect each of these precious girls to a sponsor?
We are looking for fifteen families to commit to supporting a young girl at Sight of Hope with a donation of $50 USD a month.
This $50 USD a month will cover the basic needs for one girl including her food, water, clothing, education, and medical costs. Do you or someone you know have a heart for this type of work and would love the opportunity to get involved and make a difference in a very tangible way? If so, please click here to start spreading hope today.
It has been an exciting season as we have watched God’s hand and provision move this work forward in Swaziland and we know that this is just the beginning. Scripture says,
“do not despise these small beginnings”
(Zechariah 4:10)
We sense God speaking this over us now as we start this work, believing God has a bigger plan for this work in Swaziland and even beyond than we can even fathom. We know that the best is yet to come.
